Find Out Why Its Good To Be In The Doghouse
The Doghouse has teamed up with The Rusty Seagull to front the Portobello pub’s latest street food pop-up offering – with diners promised ‘fast food, done properly’.
The Doghouse is part of the fast-growing Belmonte Catering Edinburgh street food and catering portfolio, which includes the acclaimed Pronto Pizza in Portobello’s Brighton Place.
East Lothian-based Winton Brewery opened The Rusty Seagull, located at 241 Portobello High Street, late last year – and with its range of beers brewed in Haddington it has already become a big favourite ‘local’.
A tasty menu offers a range of gourmet hot dogs, loaded fries and chicken tenders, wings and bites as well as a selection of veggie and vegan options.
Belmonte Catering owner Michael Notarangelo said it is a great example of two local businesses coming together to support each other – as well as demonstrating the continued expertise of its Scottish-based street food operation.
Michael said: “The menu may have a fast food theme but we want it to be the best fast food you’ve tasted. We like to think it is fast food, done properly.
“We’ve worked hard – using the same dedication and care that has made our dough and pizzas at Pronto such a big success – to create a menu that is not only great comfort food but goes perfectly with Winton Brewery’s beers on offer at the Seagull.
“Everything is made from scratch, and where possible using local producers. For example, our brioche buns for the hot dogs are from a bakery in Loanhead and our meat for the pulled pork and other toppings is from Findlay’s of Portobello.
“A new food offering to our repertoire is fried chicken. Much like pizza, what seems simple at its core, can pose multiple challenges when trying to elevate it. Our fried chicken goes through a three-stage process to produce a result that keeps the chicken succulent but still having the signature light, crispy coating.
“We want to make sure all dietary requirements are well catered for too. On our menu you can find a range of veggie, vegan and gluten free options.
“So while this may be a bit of side hustle from our Pronto operation, people can be assured the same 100% approach to quality and service that they love at Pronto will be on show at the Seagull.”
Vicky Burnet, general manager at The Rusty Seagull owners Winton Brewery, said they are delighted to have The Doghouse as its latest pop-up.
Vicky said: “We’re proud to partner with a local legend for this pop-up event.
“Michael’s passion for food and dedication to his craft come through in every bite, and we’re excited to share his cooking with the community.”
The Rusty Seagull plans to offer a new food pop-up every three months, with the food being available Thursday to Sunday.
Belmonte Catering – named after the Italian village where Michael’s family originate from – has four operations in its portfolio: Pronto, serving authentic Italian pizza; Rollys Ice Cream, the first in Scotland to serve unique ice cream ‘rolls’; The Doghouse, which specialises in gourmet hot dogs, smash burgers and loaded fries; and StikWaffle, offering a hot dessert concept.
